Shazam! (film)/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Shazam! are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: Since it was based on a minor DC character, nobody expected it to work out.[1]
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: The mall Santa was really funny to watch.
  • One-Scene Wonder:
    • Superman's cameo was an unexpected delight.
    • Mister Mind became one due to his creepy voice and his bug form.
  • Trailer Joke Decay: Some of the good jokes shown in the trailers didn't have that much of an effect on the film.
  • What Do You Mean It's Not for Kids?: Granted it's more lighthearted than the rest of the DCEU, but the Seven Deadly Sins and Dr. Sivana can be quite disturbing for a PG-13 superhero film.
  • Win Back the Crowd: As with Aquaman, this film helped erase the bad taste of Josstice League for good. Not to mention that the lighthearted tone was intended from the start.
  • Win the Crowd: The trailers showcased a lot of the lightheartedness, convincing fans to see it.

  1. Then again Shazam -- under his original name, "Captain Marvel" -- was the second biggest character of The Golden Age of Comic Books and such a threat to Superman's dominance that National Periodicals -- DC's original name -- sued Fawcett Comics out of existence to kill him. It's far from unthinkable that he would prove just as popular in the 21st Century.
