In the very first episode, Karen recounts how she decided that she would be her brother's bride despite society's disapproval of such a thing, and a later story has Chikage declare that her brother was the only man for her. It isn't until episode 12 of ''RePure'' that any of the girls says any differently, when Sayaka admits to herself tearfully she cannot be her brother's bride.
