Solomon Islands (not “THE Solomon Islands”) are almost a thousand islands east of New Guinea.
The country was a colony from the United Kingdom during a long time and it saw a lot of action during World War II (most famously, the Guadalcanal campaign). It declared independence in 1978, but ethnic tensions made it devolve into a civil war that ended in 2006 only with the ousting of the Prime Minister.
One of the few countries that doesn’t have a military force. On sports, their personal pride seems to be their beach soccer team. Best of Oceania!
