Alternatively, does ''Oceania'' even exist, and does the Party actually control ''less'' than it says does? The whole point is that the information given out by the Party is unreliable, and seeing how the ''only'' information the reader receives comes from the Party, nobody knows for sure any details about "the world" of 1984. The Party may not control any territory outside the British Isles. It may not even control the whole of the UK. Seeing as Winston never leaves London, we'll never know.
