Whether he strikes the final blow or not determines whether you get the "good ending" or the "normal ending."

** Also of note is the opening theme of the Anime adaptation "Aishitageru", when translated into English, several things become clear. 1. It's obviously sung from her Point of View. 2. She admits she loves Laharl and sees past his Jerkass Facade. 3. Considers their meeting "a miracle". Who knows whether this will ever carry over into the games though, much less anything else.
