* Alternate Character Interpretation: Ferguson probably feels unappreciated with his service, as shown when Cadbury threatens him for the way he grabbed Richie. Hence why Ferguson is willing to serve Van Dough.
* Canon Sue: Richie is filthy rich, he has all the best people working for him, and he's incredibly nice. The Rich family as a whole are decent employers who pay well and refuse to fire anyone... well, at the end of the movie they make an exception...
* Complete Monster: Both villains in the movie, since they are both more than willing to kill Richie and his friends to achieve their ends, not to mention Richie's parents. Ferguson was probably the truest Complete Monster, considering the sadistic glee he got out of trying to send 5 kids to their deaths.
* Family-Unfriendly Violence: For a family movie, having Van Dough shoot a 12-year-old multiple times in the chest was pretty intense - even if he was wearing a Bulletproof Vest.
