[https://web.archive.org/web/20060613225854/http://tuxracer.sourceforge.net/ Tux Racer] is a single-player first-person 3D open-source cross-platform computer game created by Sunspire Studios in 1999. You play Tux the Penguin, and race him down various icy slopes of a big mountain trying to establish a fast course time. Powerups take the form of tasty herring.
 
Thirteen courses come bundled with the game, and more courses can be found [https://web.archive.org/web/20080630220457/http://tuxracer.fubaby.com/courses.php here]. It is also straightforward to create custom courses using a graphics editor.
