The reason why it seems counterintuitive to most Russian-speakers is, as explained on the "Russian language" [[Useful Notes]] page, that the "ye" syllable is a single letter in Russian, and that letter is identical in appearance to the Latin "E". That is why [[Spell My Name With an "S"|some prefer to spell it]] as "Evgeny".
