Beam Me Up, Scotty: The "In the ass" quote (see below) has frequently been a victim of this. Many people thought it was a variant of "In the butt, Bob!" or even a black lady giving an Ebonics variant such as "It be the butt, Bob." In reality, it was said by an ordinary housewife named Olga, who gave the answer hesitantly and uncomfortably.
Fan Nickname: The Carnie Wilson-hosted revival was given the Portmanteau "Carniewed".
Hey, It's That Voice!: The first versions were announced by Johnny Jacobs, who announced many other Chuck Barris productions (such as The Gong Show and The Dating Game) as well as The Joker's Wild, the latter due to his close friendship with series creator and host Jack Barry.
Old Shame: A 1977 episode where a woman answered the question, "What is the strangest place you've ever gotten the urge to make whoopie?" with, "in the ass". Eubanks denied that this ever happened (probably because of the mis-remembered or embellished details, as stated above) until the clip surfaced online in the early 2000s. He later came to show a great deal of disgust at it on blooper shows, probably because of said common beliefs and mutations it took...especially the Unfortunate Implications of said mutations.
