- Adaptation Displacement: The film is, as mentioned under "foreign remake" below, a remake of Anthony Zimmer, though not many who have seen this film have heard of it.
- Alternative Character Interpretation: Frank is Exactly What It Says on the Tin: a widower, tourist from Wisconsin who went on a trip in Europe to forget how his life sucks. Would Alexander even play stupid when there's only the fourth wall watching? Beside, what is the proof that Frank would be Alexander, he knows the code for the safe? He could have found it, it might be a number serie an economist like Alexander was found of, and Frank guessed it. After all, he's a match teacher. And Alexander is this man with a cell phone they intercept at the end, watching how Elise, his Achilles' Heel about to betray him, is now falling in love with someone else.
- Award Snub: Inverted. The movie wasn't expected to win prizes, but it ended up recieving Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Picture (in the comedy category) and not a single Razzie nomination.
- Complete Monster / Moral Event Horizon: Shaw, who in an anecdote related to Frank, once killed every man his wife had ever slept with before she met him. Then, when he realized how many there were, he killed her too. He also thinks nothing of disposing of his own men...in front of the help, no less.
- Magnificent Bastard: Alexander - even the police admire him in the end, after having spent millions on their attempts to tack him down.
- Squick: Yeah, Elise is beautiful. But do the cops have to be creepy about it? Especially considering that they are her coworkers.
