The Ugly Truth/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Unfortunate Implications: On no uncertain terms, the film states that men are shallow perverts who can never undergo personal growth, and the only way for women to get a man is to act like a slut.
    • It also doesn't make any sense: if all men just want sex how the hell does anyone get married? If the only way to get a man is to act like a slut then why doesn't Butler just marry a slut?
    • Because the movie doesn't actually state that men only want sex; Mike (Butler's character) straight out admits he tries to keep things purely about sex because he was emotionally devastated by previous relations, so he keeps things at arms length to stop being hurt again. It's actually a Deconstruction of All Men Are Perverts.
      • Mostly because it didn't ever say all men weren't perverts either.
    • Also Abby's relationship that she got by acting like a slut is so shallow that she dumps the guy and it's the guy who got to know her as herself that she ends up with.
