There's Something About Mary/Trivia

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Enforced Method Acting: Ben Stiller's stretcher really was dropped as he was taken to the ambulance.
  • Hey, It's That Guy!:
    • Keith David, is that you?
    • Richard Jenkins as Ted's therapist.
    • Sarah Silverman as one of Mary's friends.
    • Jeffrey Tambor as Healy's contact Sully.
  • Playing Against Type: Matt Dillon had previously been known for playing rebellious teens. His turn in this as a hilarious sleazy Private detective was completely different than anything he'd done before.
    • Keith David as well who'd been primarily in actions and dramas to this point. His reaction to seeing Ted's predicament is arguably the funniest moment in the film.
  • Star-Making Role: Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller became bankable leads after the runaway success of this film.
  • What Could Have Been: The film's original ending had Ted getting hit by a bus right after Mary chooses him over her other suitors (basically turning the film into a Shoot the Shaggy Dog story). The Farrelly Brothers decided this would be too dark of a way to end the film, so they went with a more traditional happy ending.
