Line 78:
* Subverted in one episode of Stargate Atlantis: When visiting the ruins of a ship that had the crew both in stasis and believing that they were still flying the vessel in a virtual reality setting, the second in command apparently was planning to do something against her boss. However, its later revealed that the actual second in command was killed long before the events of the episode by a Wraith, and a Wraith (presumably the same one that killed her) was impersonating as her.
* Merlin has Agravaine as a good example of this. Arthur's uncle and advisor, as well as The Mole. Merlin and the rest eventually figure him out, but Arthur takes the longest to quit trusting him.

* In the Ravenloft setting, Private Investigator Flimira “Flintlock” Vhage would fit this role perfectly for Player Characters. Claiming to be an expert monster hunter who seems to know everything about every realm of Ravenloft, she could serve as a Quest Giver for pretty much any adventure in the setting. However, after giving the quest, she gives the heroes advice, and while the advice is never bad advice, it is incredibly difficult - or even impossible - to follow, so even if the heroes prevail, they likely won't do so in the way she intended them to. (For example, say she wants them to sneak into a records office in Lamordia and find evidence of a murder; the front door is guarded by a flesh golem, but she tells them the fastest way to bypass the guard is a secret back door. Unfortunately, this requires a key that Darklord Viktra Mordenheim herself carries, and while fighting the golem would take longer, trying to confront Viktra is far more dangerous.) When the PCs come back to “turn in” the quest, Flimira expresses disappointment, and when it happens a second time, and then regularly, she starts to get annoyed and angry, feeling she could have done a better job. Problem is, she can’t. Flimira is in fact a Darklord herself (a monster hunter cursed for committing unforgivable Van Helsing Hate Crimes) her Realm being the two-room office she resides in. A Darklord is a prisoner of the Realm, and thus Flimira can never leave her office. Thus, she views every protege she takes on as an impulsive and incompetent rookie, always feeling she could do better. Sooner or later, she and her proteges will turn against each other - whether she starts the fight after getting angry at them or they start it after getting tired of her ungrateful and condescending attitude, it will happen sooner or later.
