- Ensemble Darkhorse: Gambit. One of the new faces included in this game, he'd go on to be the only representative for X-Men (aside from Wolverine, natch) in Marvel vs. Capcom (even over the likes of Cyclops!). In fan polls for characters wanted in MvC3, he and Venom are frequently at the top of the list.
- Evil Is Sexy: Cammy, where she wears her Shadaloo uniform.
- Porting Disaster: The PS1 port omitted the tag team gameplay due to the system's limitations.
