The Xbox Series line is a of family of video game consoles produced by Microsoft. They follow the previous Xbox One consoles and were launched on November 10, 2020. All games released for the system play on different versions of the system, though with some improvements on the high end models. Its primary competition is the PlayStation 5. It is on the market at the same time as the Nintendo Switch, though as both consoles target different demographics and due to the relative age and affordability of the Switch, it’s more common to see Friendly Fandoms rather then console warring between the two among gamers.
The lineup consists of:
The Xbox Series X: The flagship, and one of the more powerful consoles of the generation. Sports a disk drive, and looks a little bit like a fridge.
The Xbox Series S: The cheaper and correspondingly weaker console, it’s still a massive step up over the aging Xbox One platform. Does not include a disk drive, and looks a little bit like a speaker.
A potentially released Xbox Keystone streaming device was in development, but was cancelled.
An interesting consumer friendly move made by Microsoft is that most major titles released within a few years of launch also released on the older Xbox One. Alongside the fact that many Series titles got released for Microsoft Windows, there are not many exclusives to this console line, and consequently fewer Killer Apps in the traditional sense. Still many gamers might argue that some of the other qualities of the system are killer apps in their own right.
