- Fair for Its Day: For a movie made in 1954, the treatment of the Turkish, Nigerian and Soviet characters is pretty remarkable. The Turkish Muslim character is almost progressive by today's standards. Even though there's a lot of unfortunate implications with Hideko it is pretty amazing that she gets a lot more screen time than the film's single caucasian woman and this was 1954.
- Narm: The bravery of David and Heinrich's Heroic Sacrifice is significantly undercut by the fact that David appears to be sitting in Heinrich's lap the entire time.
- Special Effects Failure: The
Corn Popsasteroid field. Also when Heinrich and David's ship crashes. - Strangled by the Red String: Sigrid and Selim's attraction pretty much comes out of nowhere.
- Unfortunate Implications: All Asian people can read pictograms, regardless of origin! Also, the Nigerian guy ranting about the spiritual evil of the moon rocks veers toward Magical Negro territory.
