- Squick: One series of strips featured Baldo romancing a bottle of conditioner in the shower.
- Unfortunate Implications: At present, the only major Caucasian characters are a Straw Conservative teenager and a racist vice-principal, and the only major Asian character is an extremely stereotypical know-it-all who is hated by the main characters for no conceivable reason.
- The whole breakup arc with Smiley smacked of this. Smiley was a friendly Caucasian character who embraced and learned from Latino culture, and who served as an Audience Surrogate for Caucasian readers. However, she broke up with Baldo because she suddenly decided that his hours at Auto Y Rod took a bite out of the time he could spend with her. Then to make things worse, the authors turned her into an Alpha Bitch so they could justify kicking her out of the comic.
