  • Fridge Horror: Krad's servants, the Selves. They are greedy kids whom Krad tricked into coming back to his castle. He then puts them through a machine that turns them into simple-minded, half-blind goblin-like creatures and forces them to mine coal forever. Now imagine all those kids' worried parents.
  • Fridge Logic: Sophianna finds Paul Rocco outside the town where she lives. Then they proceed to walk to Santa's workshop, at the North Pole.
  • The Woobie: Sophianna is the high queen of woobies. Her leg was injured in the car crash that killed her parents, forcing her to walk with a cane. She lives in an orphanage run by a woman with a fairly dim view of the world and, to top it all off, she doesn't have a clue what Christmas is.
    • Iron Woobie: She doesn't let any of this break her Christmas spirit.
