Cyberpunk 2077/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

These things about Cyberpunk 2077 are subjective - not everyone will agree with all of them.

  • Memetic Mutation: Multiple:
    • Shazamposting. When the E3 2018 trailer came out, the gritty, GTA-like tone of the trailer provoked backlash and controversy for those who expected a more refined, serious game based on the teaser trailer released years earlier. In the middle of back-and-forth between fans, a user on 4chan's /v/ engaged on a very cynical list of predictions that would end with Cyberpunk 2077 ended up becoming just a broken, sci-fi GTA with vague RPG elements. When every single of those predictions came right, it became pretty common for people to also make predictions in the style of the original, now nicknamed "Shazampost". Why it's called that? Because the original post features a cropped picture of Zachary Levi as Captain Marvel slurping on milkshake, released as marketing material for the 2019 movie Shazam!.
    • There are a number of clips of voice lines from Keanu Reeves, which are reposted with a partial cut to create a different meaning, followed by an abrupt cut to loud music from the OST.
  • Woolseyism: Since Adam Smasher saying "are you meat to cut" to Evelyn in the polish version is a very ambiguous statement, and some languages don't work like that, several versions try to work out something transmits at least some meaning of the sentence to work with his barbaric, machine-like traits:
    • The English version goes with a mix of cruelty and grossness, by having him calling her a "piece of fuckable meat".
    • The Japanese version is rude but subtle, like most insults in that language: he asks if she is a "courier", implying he thinks she is a prostitute.
    • The Brazilian Portuguese version goes into outright comedy, with Adam flirting with her and saying he would suck like her a mango up to the core (food metaphors for hot women are common in Portuguese).
