  • Fridge Brilliance: Although no one ever actually follows up when they say "I'll explain later," circumstances usually leads to the answer. An example, Emma asks the Doctor why the Daleks did not eliminate him, the preparation of the chair, and how Zektronic energy works, which will allows them to take over the universe in less than a minute.
    • For the first and second questions, the answer for them are that the Daleks needed the Doctor to help just in case something goes wrong, which it does. Their justification for keeping him alive and compliant is sound.
    • Zektronic energy allows the Daleks to kill both the Doctor and the Master in such a way that they cannot regenerate or resurrect. The Daleks invested a lot in this ability, since the Doctor is their biggest threat, this will allow them to steamroll Gallifrey and change the timeline to booth, so they'll be unopposed.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: The special ends with the first female Doctor portrayed by Joanna Lumley. While she did not play the Doctor, Jodie Whittaker became the first female Doctor in 2017.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • In canon, the Tenth Doctor likes to lick things too. Fans easily described him as "Cute, sexy, and like-the-mirror handsome."
    • In Series 7, Richard E. Grant would eventually play the re-imagined Great Intelligence, who functions as an Evil Counterpart to The Doctor.
    • The Twelfth Doctor tells both his companion and the Master to keep an eye on the universe, "I've put a lot of work into it." Steven Moffat explains later that he put the exact same line to be spoken by the actual Twelfth Doctor in Series 9's prologue.
    • The canonical Doctor falling in love with and eventually marrying his companion.
    • The episode of The Doctor's Wife confirming that regeneration gender-bending's possibility. While the Doctor had not had one yet at that time, unlike in the parody, The "Dark Water" episode revealing that the Master has regenerated into a Time Lady. This made her attraction to the Doctor escalated. And then, of course, there's the canon 13th Doctor...
    • The newer series has (farting aliens), though that's not their primary means of communication.
    • In one episode of The Thin Blue Line (a sitcom starring Rowan Atkinson), while dealing with a lying lunatic, who's claiming to be a terrorist, Rowan's character defuses the situation while remaking, "He is no more a terrorist than I am Joanna Lumley."
      • Also, in a Mr. Bean Christmas special, he was playing with a toy Dalek.
    • In 2017, the Thirteenth Doctor officially being female happened with Jodie Whitaker's announcement.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Richard E. Grant becomes the Doctor again for the Scream of the Shalka (albeit as the Ninth) and was also in ""The Name of the Doctor", where his character threw himself into the Doctor's timeline.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: It's not that, but the story's fault, given that it's a non-canonical charity special, but the brief yet memorable performance of Richard E. Grant still makes more than a few fans really annoyed that he never gotten the chance to play a canonical incarnation of the Doctor (besides Scream of the Shalka).
