Drake/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.
/wiki/Drakecreator
  • Fandom Heresy: Discussed in "Fear", with "Don't take this the wrong way but,/I never cried when Pac died/ But I probably will when Hov does". Later on he explained that it wasn't meant to be a diss, but that he was 9 when Tupac died and didn't really understand it.
  • Fandom Rivalry: Drake fans vs. Common fans. This is not helped by the artists' various Twitter battles.
  • Hype Backlash: His blend of R&B and traditional rap themes leads to a generally softer style. Combine that with the massive amount of exposure he's gotten since the Lil Wayne co-sign and it's not a stretch to view Drake as the Coldplay of hip-hop.
  • Love It or Hate It: "The Motto". It's either the best example of how to make a simple, catchy rap song in a long time, or Drake and Lil Wayne have just sent hip-hop back to the Puff Daddy years.
  • Memetic Mutation: YOLO (You Only Live Once), the titular "Motto".
  • Retroactive Recognition: For his younger fans especially, who may not have watched Degrassi: The Next Generation while he was on that show.
  • Role Association: Some people still see him as Jimmy, or better yet "that guy in a wheelchair from Degrassi". Lampshaded in the video for "Every Girl", which has captions showing people's nicknames and his says "Drizzy" before being crossed out and replaced with "Jimmy".
  • When He Smiles: Rare for a rapper, his beaming smile is one of his most striking features.
