  • Aristocrats Are Evil: In Revelation, it turns out that he hated the Nohrian royalty because Garon had destroyed his family and village.
  • Crusading Widower: He secretly wants revenge against Garon for the death of his wife, but he's extremely hesitant on carrying this through.
  • Crutch Character: In the two prologue chapters that he's in, he can easily kill everyone he faces. But the problem is that he barely gains any experience from these fights; and if you're playing Birthright, this will be an wasted investment because he's only available in Conquest and Revelations. And even when he's recruited, hardly any of his stats improves whenever he levels up.
  • Custom Uniform: Where the generic Great Knight uniform is white with blue or red highlights, his is grey with a blue sash.
  • Disney Death: On Garon's orders, Hans attacks him and drives him off a bridge and into the Bottomless Canyon during the third chapter. In Birthright, he's assumed dead. He returns in Conquest and Revelation because he survived the fall and landed in the Hidden Kingdom of Valla.
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: He gets forced out of the plot early on in the game and was considered dead by his allies. But his death only sticks in Birthright, since he hasn't been rescued and the natives of Valla aren't the welcoming type.
  • Interface Spoiler: Where he can have support conversations in Conquest, this feature is absent in Revelation because he's partially under the Anankos' control
  • May-December Romance: He can marry the Avatar, who is a teenager.
  • Old Soldier: He's old enough to be in his sixties, but his age doesn't stop him froml wielding a lance and an axe.
