During Yondu's "Not So Different" speech to Rocket, he points out that Rocket steals batteries he doesn't need. Rocket echoes this at Yondu's funeral, where he says Yondu did the same thing. At the time that sounds like Rocket's projecting, but Yondu stole Peter Quill from Ego by not delivering him, and Ego actually started to use Peter as "a battery". Yondu also "stole" Ego's previous children from their homes, and Ego had similar plans for them if they'd had the power. Yondu was doing a job, he didn't need any of the children. He said he kept Peter because he was useful for stealing, but he also hinted that he did it because he'd realised what Ego was doing - his real motivation was to protect Peter from his "jerk" of a father. So Yondu really did steal "batteries" he didn't need, and Rocket knew it.
