- Moral Event Horizon: Ozai, obviously. Zhao also crosses it in a brief appearance when he tortures Ursa with red spider-fly venom with the intent of using her against Zuko.
- Nightmare Fuel: Ursa's nightmares about Ozai are genuinely frightening.
- Tear Jerker: Many.
- Hakoda telling Ursa that he knows who she is and that her son is fighting with the Avatar.

- Ursa finding out about Zuko's scar.
- Azula. Just Azula.
- Ursa and Zuko's reunion. A beautiful Tear Jerker for the characters and for the reader.
