Black Butler (manga)/Fanfic Recs

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Proof that the remaining 10% is worth dying for here.

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Black Butler fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into non-canon or romantic territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business. You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

  • Quite possibly the most honestly and unabashedly hilarious fanfiction that I have ever read came from this lovely writer. Though they are not a one trick pony and write a good variety of thing, ranging from twisted and weird, to sweet, and to so funny that you may just well die laughing. "Something New" is especially good.

  • Extremely dark but elegant fic. "Mistress" showcases a grown up demon Ciel as a butler (with Sebastian as his ever-snarky footman, of course) to a woman on the path for revenge not unlike the contract the Ciel had with Sebastian as a human. Many of Lark's fic involves original characters but they are all very interesting, well-developed and fit into the context of the original series while still having lives of their own. Her writing style also fits well with the more poetic writing style that authors during the 19th century had,but is not over-the-top dramatic or distracting. As a warning, many of these fics are rather dark and adult in nature so a trigger warning applies here in the case of anyone being triggered by dark imagery or non-graphic depictions of sexual content.

Crystal Allen at FF.net

  • Very gifted author of general fics, often somewhat dark in nature but always with enchanting, dream-like imagery, spot-on characterization and intriguing plots. Her works are free from any misspellings, grammatical errors or clichés. Her only flaw is that she is not very productive, having only written 6 Kuroshitsuji-fanfics so far. On the other hand, all 6 are of extremely high quality and highly enjoyable.

General Fics

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

The 31st, by artbug

  • Recommended by Oracle Seven
  • Synopsis: A brief story of the month before Ciel gained his butler and their meeting.
  • Comments: An absolutely wonderful tale of Ciel's missing month. It's graphic, as you'd expect, but there's enough vagueness to allow the reader to fill in the details themselves. Characterization is spot-on.

Draw the Curtains, by mellish

  • Recommended by Oracle Seven
  • Synopsis: Sebastian, Ciel, and a spilled bowl of milk. He's never had to do the cleaning up himself before.
  • Comments: Set right after the fight with Grell. It's a nice bit of fluff between Ciel and Sebastian.

An Unbreakable Bond, by Ennauethys

  • Recommended by Angel Flower
  • Synopsis: An unbreakable bond created through the threads of darkness as they engulf the light of a soul, marking him for eternity as he chooses to stay in his darkness and embrace it. Through our actions the honesty of light creates the indifference of darkness.
  • Comments: A wonderfully written story based around making Elizabeth a complete Badass, going through many hardships and pain to get revenge on the one who killed Ciel.

Roman's Revenge at FF.net

  • warnings: may contain content that is triggering for some readers, please see the story for full list of warnings.
  • Funny, witty, and refreshing. There is no other story like this written for Kuroshitsuji. The narration of this story alone deserves a through praise, not to mention the content. This Au takes the stereotypes of Kuroshitsuji fanfiction and turns them upside down in a sarcastic, satirical portrayal that not only provides intelligent comment on the nature of fandom, but also life itself. Or at least life as a college student.

Diligo Victum Nusquam, by Maiden of the Moon

  • Recommended by... whoever created the TVTropes page for the fanfic
  • Synopsis: Ciel is dead and Sebastian is at fault. Full of regret, Sebastian (also known as Malphas) is willing to do absolutely anything to bring Ciel back to life. Much suffering and tragedy ensues.

Shipping Fics

Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.
