Life on Mars/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Anvilicious: Clearly one of the writers doesn't like football hooligans, as made especially clear by Sam's post-arrest speech about what football is about.
    • Specifically, his speech is about football hooligans necessitating increased security measures at football grounds, which leads to the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, which left 96 Liverpool fans dead.
  • Awesome Ego: Gene.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The title theme.
  • High Octane Nightmare Fuel: The Test Card F girl.
    • Though possibly subverted in that her weird advice to Sam was actually correct the whole time.
  • Ho Yay / Foe Yay: Gene loves bringing up how much of a fairy Sam is, but he sure likes to get in his personal space. In this Radio Times cover, they don't even look like they're fighting. They're just really close.
  • Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped: Many of the Aesops present in the episodes are important issues in modern society as well.
  • Straw Man Has a Point: Frank Morgan. He's right -- Gene Hunt is a flawed police officer. His motives may be right, but his judgment is skewed. He is far too emotional and violent. The fact that he put himself at the front of his suicide mission does not negate his flaws, or the fact that he put his team in danger when cooler heads could have completed the task with less risk.
