Little Witch Academia/Fridge

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

Fridge Brilliance

  • Akko being so inept in magic makes perfect sense, because she doesn't come from a family line of witches.
    • Akko attending the academy at all could be considered a smart move for the faculty, because they want to test having attendees from non-witch families, so they can hopefully try to expand who can attend the academy further to make up for the overall decline that's been happening since the end of the magic golden age.

Fridge Horror

  • If magic is becoming obsolete, does that mean that magic-reliant species are going to go extinct? Dragons? Fairies?
  • Apparently the witches are able to learn to communicate with animals, AND that there are other species such as dragons that are revealed capable of speech and even using technology just like humans. What do you think that says about the food they eat?
  • Akko nearly kills Professor Pisces by filling her fish bowl with mineral water (yeah, professor Pisces is an actual fish). Akko couldn't understand fish language at the time, so imagine what Professor Pisces might have been saying, if not SCREAMING to Akko as she was choking on the mineral water.
  • They confirm that the Witch Hunts occurred in their world. Think about that.
  • Professor Croix was apparently using her magic machines to acquire energy from people's feelings of hatred, anger, and despair. One of the big sources, was from a brewing conflict regarding the results of a soccer game, which she was manipulating to get people more and more angry with each other. It gets to the point where war enters the conversation. You get that? WAR. Over a SOCCER GAME! The scary part? There actually HAVE been riots and catastrophes brought about from sports games when fans got out of hand. Croix is right, mob-mentality is indeed dangerous.

Fridge Logic

  • Why are people saying magic is going obsolete in their world?
    • The faculty at the academy has been doing very little to integrate magic into the modern age. Yes traditions are important, but they're actually destroying their own culture by keeping magic use seem so inflexible.
    • Offhand, the uses for magic could very well reshape their entire world: Teleportation for mass transit. Transformation magic for construction, energy production, recycling (and other environmental aids), and the medical community would LEAP at trying to use magic to find cures for diseases and conditions.
    • Unfortunately, another few areas where magic could come into play include military use and eroticism.
  • Luna Nova is apparently losing ground each year with less and less students enrolling. One might think it's because of the decline of magic alone, but what if it were actually just as much the Professors' faults as anything else? For starters, there were several instances of them being corrected or outdone by Diana, a student. That doesn't bode well for a school's curriculum when students are correcting teachers or reading things that PROFESSORS SHOULD KNOW! Many of the Alumni actually say that they feel the appeal of magic has been going downhill ever since the current headmistress took over. Not to mention, it's the professors who decide how and what they teach, so when they keep forcing students to ONLY follow old traditions that are in desperate need of updates, of course it more or less suppresses the potential appeal of magic.
