The National Geographic Channel, also popularly nicknamed "NatGeo", is an offshoot of National Geographic magazine and a network of its own on television. Its specials cover a wide variety of topics, as does the magazine from which the channel branched off. Some examples of its topics are geography, archaeology, natural science and technology, and even pop culture. Many of the channel's shows have strong focus on time periods, from events that happened thousands of years ago to explorations of the world in the present day.

The channel’s Iconic Logo is a yellow rectangular portrait frame.

National Geographic Channel provides examples of the following tropes:
  • Of Corsets Sexy: One episode of Taboo, in keeping with its theme of body modification, interviewed a woman who wore a corset because she wanted to retain her hourglass figure despite her age. The corset was even tightlaced to the point where her waist had a circumference of 15 inches.
  • Shown Their Work: In excruciating detail, even when the show is dealing with speculative matter, such as on Storm Worlds.
  • Speculative Documentary: Some of the shows that air on NatGeo fit into this genre, such as episodes of Aftermath and Storm Worlds.
  • Your Normal Is Our Taboo: Its series Taboo deals a lot with practices that are normal for certain cultures that Westerners would find shocking, obscene, odd or taboo.
