In one Peanuts arc, Linus was successfully able to give up his blanket by giving it to Snoopy, telling him not to give it back No Matter How Much I Beg. Snoopy kept the promise, enforcing it by turning it into a sports coat. After Linus finally got over the withdrawal, he was overjoyed to have kicked the habit... until well-meaning Charlie Brown got him a new one. Nice Job, You Blockhead!
