Basic Trope: They're great with any living thing - except humans.

  • Straight:
    • First type: Alice is a sweet-natured girl who can talk to - and understand - animals and plant life as if they were human, but when it comes to interacting with people of her own species, she panics.
    • Second type: Bob is a savage hunter in the jungle who's learned to live off the fat of the land, but is distrustful of humans.
  • Exaggerated:
    • First type: Alice can communicate with anything living, but passes out when a human being so much as looks her way.
    • Second type: Bob is a Hunter of His Own Kind.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted: Animals Hate Him
  • Subverted:
    • First type: The companions run into Alice, who they expect to be very sheltered. She greets them warmly and helps them out with no trouble at all.
    • Second type: The gruff hunter greets the intruders with reasonable, if not extreme, warmth.
  • Double Subverted:
    • First type: ...in order to get them to quickly be on their way and not try to convert her.
    • Second type: ...But only because he knows if they're going to try something, it won't be if he's on guard.
  • Parodied:
    • First type: The naive Alice goes on a rant about various social injustices that either never existed, barely existed, or have since been fixed.
    • Second type: Bob turned his back on humanity because of a very minor misunderstanding that could have easily been resolved.
