Pocket God/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Crowning Moment of Awesome: Taking down a boss monster.
  • Crowning Moment of Funny: Although one of the more violent (but still G-Rated) sacrifices, most people will get a kick out of feeding a Pygmy a swordfish.
    • The Pocket God Update Song is pretty funny.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: The Pocket God Update Song
  • Fan Dumb / Unpleasable Fanbase: The fans expect a constant flow of weekly/fortnightly updates. Referenced in The Pocket God Update Song.
    • To be fair though, Bolt Creative did say at one point that they would go back to weekly updates, but this never happened....
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • You can can play "tug-o-war" with the ice squid using a Pygmy. If you pull too hard, its head comes off!
    • The possessed Pygmies on the winch and bongos sure look creepy.
    • Winch a Pygmy too hard in the altar and it's limbs are ripped off!
    • If you drop a monkey on a Pygmy, its face gets ripped off!
  • Unfortunate Implications: In real life, "Pygmy" is used to refer to real groups of people (like the Baka of central Africa, who consider the term a slur [dead link]) and the "Pygmies" in the game are stereotyped, not-too-bright little brown people that you get to mess with and/or kill for your amusement...
    • This actually caused some controversy, with Pacific Islanders and Anthropologists protested to Apple claiming the game was racist. Bolt Creative defended the game, stating that "it depicts no specific race or nationality." The game's programmer, Dave Castelnuovo got in touch which one of the Pacific Islanders and made a few compromises: the Pygmies would now be called "Oogs" and the Moai statue would be replaced with a fictional octopus god statue. Later, the Oogs were renamed back to "Pygmies" again, as Dave found it didn't cause any friction between Pacific Islanders.
