  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks: Even exploiting sob stories for ratings can actually manage to get worse.
    • Metromedia's 1969-70 revival apparently went Up to Eleven and used actresses chosen before each taping to "win" a bunch of prizes. Metromedia is now FOX.
    • Averted by the Lifetime one-off, which rewarded people who were recommended by their loved ones because they gave back to their communities. The most honest and good-hearted of the three versions only got one episode; think about that.
  • Weird Al Effect: Many younger fans of George Carlin may not know that his "Queenie For a Day" skit was based on this show. It was part of a fake TV lineup that also included a parody of the far more well-known Truth or Consequences...and the two fake game shows are connected by a Brick Joke.
