Rescue 911/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Anvilicious: Many times, but this wasn't really the point of the series and was only mentioned in the "aftermath" part of the segments. And really, some of that advice can keep your friends and family safe.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: A lot of them.
  • Gateway Series: While not the first show of its kind, people who watched crime and rescue shows started with this show.
    • We don't have an exact figure, but there are quite a few people who were inspired to become dispatchers, firemen, paramedics, or police officers because of shows like this.
  • Narm: "Bob, get yer gun! There's an alligator with a kid in his mouth!"
  • Special Effect Failure: This.
  • Tear Jerker: By FAR. Especially, but obviously not limited to, those episodes where victims did die (though deaths were less frequent later in the show's run).
  • Too Dumb to Live: "Sealant overdose".
  • What an Idiot!: Some of the accidents are caused by stupidity. Naturally, the show lampshaded this and showed how to learn from it.
    • "Scuba Cave," wherein some untrained divers decided to explore a cave. It did not end well.
    • "Roller Coaster Rescue," where a teenager mistakenly put his foot on the track to push a roller coaster onto the track. He ends up with a mangled leg after being dragged around the track.
    • A guy in one episode decides to move a dishwasher out to check on the hose, without first shutting off the electricity.
    • A couple of girls decide to play in the trunk of a car, and one of them closes it. (To be fair, though, they were kids...)
    • A woman was diagnosed as hypoglycemic, and did not take it seriously, causing her blood sugar get too low and to lose consciousness while driving.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Cute?: They mention that a pig is a very unusual pet. This is deliberately invoked in an episode where a pig has to be rescued.
