Line 19:
* In Fushigi Yuugi, the Priestess is technically a Virgin Sacrifice for the Beast God she summons. It also functions as a Secret Test of Character; if she uses her wishes for the good of others over herself and possesses enough strength of will, she can escape having her soul eaten.
** Also, there was a snow-demon in the novel that explains Nuriko's backstory that demanded a more conventional Virgin Sacrifice from the village nearby. He eats Nuriko's companion.

* Dr. Aesop was a sadly-forgotten Batman villain, a crime boss who was fond of Death Traps based on Aesop’s fables. (Yeah, pretty silly, but is that really sillier than the Riddler or the Mad Hatter?) Since animals figured prominently in Aesop’s stories, these death traps often employed this Trope. Although Dr. Aesop - much like Jigsaw - believed he was actually teaching victims something by doing this, which they would hopefully take to heart should they survive.
