Lee is a prisoner in transport, having been convicted for the murder of a state senator who was sleeping with his wife, when the the outbreak starts and makes his escape. He takes care of Clementine in the first season, until he succumbs to a walker bite, but not before giving Clem the necessary skills and knowledge to survive.
