* Lampshaded and subverted in ''[[Durarara!!]]''. Two torture technicians are about to torture someone using methods inspired by manga. They reference the idea that partaking too much of a medium can make you violent/detached from reality, but then say essentially that they were twisted from the get-go, and that the manga isn't to blame.

 

* Parodied in a panel of ''The [[Cartoon History of the Universe]]'' set in ancient times, in which a child playing chess triumphantly captures a rook. His mother laments, "These action games are ruining our youth!"
