He slaughtered all but a thousand of these revolutionaries, the survivors taking refuge in a tower, and when Abimelak found them, he had his men set fire to it. But [[Defiant to the End|as a final act of defiance]], a woman at the top of the tower [[Undignified Death|dropped a stone that fell on Abimelak]], [[Karma Houdini Warranty|mortally wounding him]]. Realizing he was dying, he ordered a soldier nearby to kill him, as he refused to let the records show that he had been killed by a woman.
