Supposedly, this wooden chair that once occupied an inn near Thirsk was used by a murderer named Thomas Busby and cursed before he was caught and hanged; this was mostly debunked, as a furniture expert examined it and found that it had been constructed using machine-turned spindles, which were not used until the 19th Century, long after Busby was hanged. Nonetheless, many deaths were supposedly attributed to the chair; in World War II, many soldiers who sat in it while on leave never returned from later missions, and at least three fatal accidents occured where the victim had recently used it. The inn's owner eventually donated it to a museum, where it is, to this day, displayed suspended from the ceiling to discourage anyone from tempting Fate.
