Splatoon is a franchise of family friendly shooting games from Nintendo.
Gameplay primarily consists of shooting ink, which doubles both as an offensive weapon and as a defensive tool, allowing enhanced mobility, cover, and speed on claimed terrain, while hindering opposing forces on the same.
As of 2024 it consists of three games, plus some DLC.
- Splatoon: Released in 2015 for the Wii U.
- Splatoon 2: Released in 2017 for the Nintendo Switch.
- Splatoon 3: Released in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
Check out its webpage on the Nintendo website here.
Tropes used in Splatoon include:
- Abnormal Ammo: Ink is used instead as ammunition.
- After the End: Most mammalian life is eradicated by the time of the games.
- Everything's Squishier with Cephalopods: Inklings and Octolings play a major role in the story, though other cephalopods make an appearance as well.
- Family-Friendly Firearms: Ink is shot rather then traditional ammo.
- Non-Mammalian Hair: Played with. Most characters have what appears to be hair at first glance, but is really just their tentacles, which due to their location and style resemble hair.
- Speaking Simlish: Character speed in a strange language.
