  • Adaptation Displacement: A lot of people don't know that the show was based on a book.
  • Ear Worm - Liberally sprinkled throughout the soundtrack, with Blondie's "One Way or Another" headlining as the Thematic Theme Tune.
  • Moral Event Horizon - Some view Kim's attempted date rape of Sugar as this, even though she backs out of it and is clearly very naive about the whole situation.
  • Tear Jerker - Many moments, especially the scene with Sugar eventually breaking down in tears during the first season finale.
  • The Woobie - Mainly Kim in season 1, more Sugar in season 2. Nathan and Tom also have their moments - for the former, mainly when Stella has her affair, for the latter, it's mainly when he realises that he and Kim will never be together.
