Should we include stat-altering in the description?

Because the way most RPGs works is that some guy with an attack power of 80 hits one of your guys for 55 damage because he 25 defense points. Now, most of the video games that I played either have a command that temporarily improves my team's defensive stats or an move that lowers the guy's attack power. I'm talking about something like the advanced version of this, which is intended to save you by making a boss deal less damage to you.

The trope is pretty obvious that Damage Reduction is a buff for the character who benefits from it, not a debuff for an NPC that the character is up against. If it was up to me, I'd have to say you're example should go into a different trope.
