The Titans find themselves trapped in a school run by Mad Mod, and must escape it before he brain-washes them.
Tropes:
- Actor Illusion: The multiple Clockwork Orange references in the episode (most notably the hypnosis chair that holds Beast Boy's eyes open) connect to Mad Mod's VA, Malcolm McDowell, starring in that film as Alex DeLarge in his youth.
- Alliterative Name: Mad Mod (and his VA, Malcolm McDowell).
- Breather Episode: Precedes Wham! Episode Apprentice, pt. I. This became a tradition in the series, for each season to have one Breather Episode immediately before the finale.
- A Day At the Bizarro
- Disco Dan: "Mod" hasn't been in style since the '60s. Interestingly, the character wasn't originally this, as he was created in the '60s (and was a young man in that interpretation).
- Evil Brit (Mad Mod)
- Fake Brit: Averted; Malcolm McDowell is really British (which is ironic, as Mad Mod is an exaggerated stereotype).
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Malcolm McDowell as Mad Mod.
- Mad Scientist: Mad Mod is implied to be one, as he did create all his robots and illusion-machines.
- Master of Illusion (Mad Mod)
- Mind Control
- Older Than They Look: Subverted; Mad Mod is actually an old man, but uses his illusions to portray himself as a hip young man (who still sports the fashions of the 1960s).
- Running Gag: Beast Boy succumbing to Mind Control.
- Sadist Teacher: Mad Mod fills this role.
