The Perishers/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Growing the Beard: Generally agreed to have happened when Ben Witham was replaced by Maurice Dodd -- the early strips are at best regarded as generic and So Okay It's Average, and at worst, horribly unfunny.
  • Replacement Scrappy: A real life instance. The strip's immediate replacement was one idolizing the Brazillian soccer player Ronaldinho, in a fairly transparent effort to gain publicity from the 2006 World Cup. One small problem... Ronaldinho was the player whose goal had knocked England out of the previous World Cup. Needless to say, the strip got dropped pretty quickly, and the Daily Mirror started importing Pooch Cafe instead. That one was somewhat better received, but its reliance on American pop culture references prevented it from ever becoming very popular.
