The famous musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein, based on the story of the Trapp Family Singers, The Sound of Music was inspired by an earlier, now largely forgotten German movie adaption of the book and was made into a movie in 1965. In 1991 the book was again independently adapted in a 40 episode Anime as part of the World Masterpiece Theater series.
