The Wild Horse Thesis/Trivia
Trivia about The Wild Horse Thesis includes:
- Gratuitous German: Unavoidable in an Evangelion fic with Asuka playing a major role, but it seems like Calamity Cordite didn't even go to Google Translate at times -- for example, Asuka uses "idioten", which means "idiots", plural, to address individuals.
- Gratuitous Japanese: Mostly avoided, but when it does appear it's at a fangirl misuse level -- around chapter 12 Ranma starts addressing the girls as "Koi", and later Toji uses it with Hikari. "Koi" is one of the Japanese words that can mean "love", but no native Japanese speaker would use it as a mode of address or term of affection, as it's used here. They would probably use "anata" instead.
- Rouge Angles of Satin: Calamity Cordite is prone to typos and word choice errors (such as "new" for "knew"). She also misspells the name of physicist Paul Dirac as "Duroc".
- Shout-Out:
- Naming the homeroom teacher "Bendo Steinakawa" is an explicit shout-out to Ferris Bueller's Day Off; the auther lampshades it in a note at the start of the next chapter.
- In chapter 9 Asuka humorously compares a "technique" Ranma is, with intentional pomposity, offering to share to "the secret to life, the universe, and everything".
- Chapter 11 has a reference to The Frantics, when Ranma is described as bracing himself for a "boot-to-da-head".
- In chapter 16, Ranma replies to a question from Ritsuko with "That... is a secret!", the Catch Phrase of Xellos from Slayers.
