During the course of the novel Atticus defends a black man, Tom Robinson, who is falsely accused of rape. Despite (or possibly because of) its near-universal acclaim and status as a classic, this was the only book Harper Lee ever published for a half-century. It was given a faithful adaptation as a film with Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, probably his best-known role today. |
