Ultra Series/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • Complete Monster: There have been quite a few, but Empera Seijin and Ultraman Belial certainly count. Belial moreso in that while Empera's attempted crimes were on the same score as his, Belial's were against his own species. What else could describe a being who'd steal the sun of his home world and leave it to turn into a frozen wasteland with everyone on it? This was AFTER he killed the being who had fought his way into the space-prison where Belial was held, broke him out and gave him an artifact of power, and began essentially licking his boots.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: Seiji and Yuuko's reunion and Ultraman 80's reunion with his students in Ultraman Mebius. The fact that the brought all the original actors back to reprise their parts makes it all the sweeter.
  • Fridge Horror - Zetton (and its successors) look more cool than scary. Supply material note that those boxes that appear to be its eyes are actually the ears. So where are Zetton's eyes? Those glowing spots on its chest. Suddenly, the beast look much more creepy than before.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • Ohhhh yes. Tiga and Nexus (and Cosmos) seemed to have particularly nasty kaiju every so often, sometimes going into the high octane variant.
    • 100 Union Kaiju Beryudora, Ultraman Belial's One-Winged Angel form. Not only is the thing downright demonic in nature, it's body is made up of scores of complete and LIVING KAIJU, each of which is moving and roaring, grabbing at opponents that are attacking.
    • Fake Agul in episode 16 of Ultraman Gaia. His creepy smile was something that scarred kids' memories for a very, very long time.
    • At least once a season you get a horrific creature that seems to be melted in how its mutations worked out.
    • Also, anything which involves an Assimilation Plot monster. Or Dada.
    • Yapool can get pretty scary at times.
  • Special Effects Failure: Any sequence where the Redshirt Army of the season uses a machine to punch a kaiju in the face, with an awful use of CGI.
    • Happens alot for the older shows, but the newer ones are not as bad, though still have their moments.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The two newest movie is filled with them.
