- Two possible origins were floated for who Nightcrawler's parents were before the official reveal[1]
- The first idea was that he was the son of Doctor Strange villain Nightmare.However, Roger Stern (who was writing the Doctor Strange title at the time) didn't like the idea, so it was scrapped.
- Second idea, he was the biological son of Mystique and her lesbian wife Destiny. Supposedly, Mystique - who could shapeshift - took male form and impregnated Destiny. The editors felt that, at the time, it was controversial enough to even have an LGBT couple, so that was scrapped too.
- Also, when Mojo was introduced as Longshot's Arch Enemy in that character's limited series, the plan was to eventually shoe him in as a Doctor Strange villain. However, Longshot worked so well with the mutant teams that Mojo would far more be associated with them, even without Longshot.
