Basic Trope: A news or film crew of some sort happen to be on the scene when something amazing happens, resulting in their efforts to document the amazing event.

  • Straight: Anchorwoman Alice is on the scene with her cameraman, Bob, when Herois begins his final confrontation with Emperor Evulz.
  • Exaggerated: Alice and Bob have been at every major phenomenon or catastrophe, all by chance.
  • Justified: Alice is an Intrepid Reporter and knew something was going to happen.
  • Inverted: Alice has vital information that could bring down the Corrupt Corporate Executive, so he sends a surveillance crew to track her movements.
  • Subverted:
    • Bob is recording the battle when a stray fireball hits his camera.

Bob: No, we're not getting this.

    • It wasn't a reporter that got the footage, but a civilian with a camera.
  • Double Subverted: So Alice gets her personal camera out of her purse.
  • Parodied: Alice is a little girl that is pretending to be a reporter while her father plays the role of the camera man.
  • Deconstructed:
    • Because of Alice's insistence on getting close to the action, they're caught in the middle of the crossfire and killed.
    • Evulz is a Person of Mass Destruction project Gone Horribly Right and Herois is a Super Soldier, both of whom resulted from a government experiment, so the whole battle being covered up by the government. Alice and Bob are promptly fired and made to look like fools in order to make their story seem less credible, crushing their dreams of becoming famous and making a difference.
  • Reconstructed:
    • Alice and Bob's footage is still released, only followed by words of mourning from the network and their friends. The footage is wildly popular and broadcast in dozens of different languages. In the end, they win several awards and a memorial is erected in their honor.
    • Alice and Bob post their footage online, where it goes viral. The people of the world know the truth and the two still go on to be successful reporters by publishing their work on their own website.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: There's no news crew on the scene when Herois and Evulz start fighting.
  • Enforced: The author first became popular by writing news articles, but always wanted to be the Intrepid Reporter on the scene, in the middle of the action, so she lives her dream through Alice.
  • Lampshaded:

Alice: Are we getting this?
Bob: Yes, we're getting this!

  • Defied: Emperor Evulz has a barrier set up to keep would-be interferers away.
