Black Dynamite/YMMV

Everything About Fiction You Never Wanted to Know.

  • And the Fandom Rejoiced: Four major actors from the film (Michael Jai White, Byron Minns, Tommy Davidson, Kym Whitley) returned to voice their animated counterparts.
  • Beyond the Impossible: The film plays considerably with this trope. The first episode of the animated series has quite a few examples. In one case, this is twice over in one scene. Black Dynamite is in the middle of sex with yet another woman when a helicopter labeled "The Man" inexplicably shows up outside his apartment. A small earthquake results (which the woman mistakes for being part of sex with BD), and Black Dynamite realizes that it's not an earthquake. He jumps out of bed, out the window and jumps in mid-air toward the helicopter--still naked except for a strategically placed sock over "Little Black Dynamite".
  • Non Sequitur Scene: Even in a movie this ridiculous, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln karate-chopping John Wilkes Booth's derringer from Richard Nixon's hand was a little bit weird.
    • Admittedly, Black Dynamite's first villain in the animated series, a children's show puppet, The Frog Kurtis, and his puppet pimp crew, was a bit jarring to this troper.
  • Characterization Marches On: Episode 1 of the animated series expands somewhat on almost every featured major character except Bullhorn, who has the same Rhymes on a Dime shtick as the film. In particular, Honeybee has acquired Action Girl status.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: Oh, yes.
  • Fountain of Memes: Black Dynamite, full stop.

"Haha! I threw that shit before I entered the room!"

  • Memetic Mutation: "But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs to the community!"
  • Vindicated by Cable: The movie was a flop in theatres but got a lot of notice through DVD and the Starz network. But this is technically accurate, now that an animated series is on the way for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim.
